Secluded Vacation

Located in the North of Scotland Inverness is the capital of the Highlands and is believed to lie near the site of the Battle of Culloden. The city has a proud history and has played a vital role in Scotland’s history. This battle is just part of the rich background that makes up Inverness. This particular battle was fought on April 16, 1746 and was an important clash between the British government and the Jacobites.

Geographically the city is located in part of the great Glen. This area consists of a series of Glens or valleys in Scotland that run from Inverness to Fort William. A geological fault runs through this area and is known as the great Glen fault. This bisects the Scottish Highlands and the Northwest Highlands. It is this geographic structure that played a great significance in the Jacobean uprising of the 18th century.

It is here that the River Ness runs into the Moray Firth. Scotland’s largest inlet, the Moray Firth has played a major role in the history of the area. Nottingham is a famous town mainly because of its association with the Robin Hood legend. It is also internationally known for its lace making and was the birthplace of several styles of bicycles. Nottingham was originally a section of the Mercia Kingdom in Anglo-Saxon times. Nottingham became fortified after the Vikings seized and conquered the towns and villages in the area.

Nottingham castle was built during the 11th century out of sandstone from the surrounding area. A settlement grew surrounding the castles and eventually a market square was constructed as the settlement grew into a town. This market square was very important for many centuries to come. During the 15th century Nottingham has a prosperous export trade mainly due to religious sculptures.

The textile industry was very important to Nottingham during the industrial revolution and it became know internationally as a place of excellent lace making. However because the town was planned poorly it was also known to contain some of the worst slums in the world, second only to India. The city of Keswick – Cumbria is a small town located in central England with a population of less than 5000. Keswick lies within the historic Columbia County. The name originally derived from the word Cese-Wic which translates to the cheese market. This market received a grant in 1276 by Edward I. This market is still ongoing today over 700 years later and is held every Saturday in the street of the downtown area.

There are numerous historic buildings which surround town center. One of these structures is the original Town hall; this Hall was originally known as a moot Hall. This is one of several Moot halls throughout England. These halls were a meeting place for the elders of the hundred. The elders of the hundred were the original political leaders during the 13th and 14th century. It is believed that this organization derived its name from the fact that there were 100 households within a territory.

The 16th-century brought small-scale mining to the town. Graphite was mined here. Keswick has had a long association with graphite. The graphite pencil was invented here, and was produced here continuously for over 500 years. In 2008 the graphite, Pencil Company moved out of the area and relocated onto the Irish coast.  Read more...

Along the northern border of Egypt lies the resort town of Taba Egypt. Bordering Israel, it is perfectly located on the Gulf of Aqaba in the Red sea, and is a popular weekend escape for natives of Israel and Egypt.
