The Pacific paradise of Hawaii has long held an exotic allure that draws travelers from all corners of the globe to its picturesque shores. The teenage olive ridley sea turtle was only fifteen years old as she drifted 500 yards offshore in the warm, tropical eastern Pacific ocean off Ostional Beach in a small land that, about five centuries earlier, Christopher Columbus had discovered and named “Costa Rica”, the “rich coast.”

The nearly daily afternoon tropical rains of November had slipped away as the marine turtle waited in anticipation. The moon was in its final quarter and, though she did not know why, it was having an effect on her.

A few yards away, another olive ridley sea turtle joined her, then a third, followed by a dozen, then hundreds, thousands, now tens of thousands. For unimaginable epochs the moon has silently passed its timeless phases that affect this planet—and that, for more than one hundred million years has drawn marine turtles back to their ancestral homes.

There is something mysterious about life. A few months earlier, this marine turtle and the multitude of sea turtles now alongside her were scattered across the Pacific Ocean, some more than 2500 miles away.  Read more...

I am a professional photographer in Costa Rica. The experiences on my tours are many since I never know what my group and I will happen upon. Let me tell you about one of these surprising events.

During one of our Costa Rica Photo Tours, my group drove to a photography location in the beautiful and pristine Osa Peninsula which National Geographic has called “the most biologically diverse place” on earth. To get there we drove through the tiny village of Ojochal near where I live.

One of my groups discovered that moving day for some Costa Ricans can be rather unique. As my group and I were passing through the village we saw an incredible sight. But before I tell you the story let me tell you a bit about the man who was moving.

When we first moved to Costa Rica our only neighbours were Ticos (as Costa Ricans call themselves) and Senor Wilson (isn’t that Spanish or what?) brought us a house-warming gift of some flowering plants. It was quite humorous to see him standing at the top of our driveway holding some plants because, you see, he was too polite to come to our door without an invitation even though he was bearing a gift to welcome us.  Read more...

On gay vacations, our gayness is one thing we all have in common. This shared life experience can only add to our vacation experience. Bonds are quickly formed in the group due to our shared experiences in life.

People we have just met can quickly become friends and confidants. This makes gay vacations all the more special and meaningful. We’re able to share our vacation experience with others that we know understand us.
