The lakes and mountains holidays in Italy are very beautiful and most can be found near the Alps in Northern Italy. One of the largest lakes in Italy is Lake Garda located between Milan and Venice. This lake was originally formed by the glaciers. Lake Garda has many resorts and hotels along its shores as it is a very popular tourist destination.

Some interesting spots to visit on the lake include Sirmione, an ancient fortified town. This town contains the Virgilio & catullo Spa Complexes and has many hotels, bars, restaurants, fashion stores and a market. You can also visit the Roman poet, Catullus’s villa and a 13th century castle, Scaliger castle. At the very tip of the peninsula is a sulfur springs which is noted for its healing of catarrhal conditions. Very close to Lake Garda is one of the most famous parks in Italy, Gardaland.

Another lake known for its beauty is Lake Como. This lake is close to Lake Garda and is only about an hour from Milan. There are many beautiful gardens and villas to visit as Lake Como is known for its lakeside villas. Some villas that should not be missed include Villa Carlotta, Villa Serbelloni, Villa Melzi, Villa del Balbianello and Villa d’Este. If possible you should make arrangements to view the interior of the villas as well as the gardens.

The weather in Lake Como is very mild and even in the hottest part of summer will remain a balmy 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The lake itself offers many water sports such as windsurfing, sailing and kite surfing. You can travel to different towns around the lake by driving around the edge of the lake or by taking a ferry.

For a mountainous region you need not look any further then the Italian Alps in the north of the country. The Alps offer something during every season as the spring and summer, the hiking and biking offer spectacular scenery and fields of wild flowers. In the winter you can go skiing or relax at one of the many spa towns nestled in the mountains.
