The Oyster smart card has massively improved London’s “tube” system.
An Oyster card lets you make use of the majority of the London transport system (even though some places choose to stay outside the scheme).
It provides a big discount on standard fares and also helps save you time in queueing to buy tickets.
The system automatically saves you money as it works out the cheapest fare at the end of the day (based on the journeys taken).
If you travel more than you expected to initially, it only charges you the lowest fare instead of pricey singles and returns.
So does this scheme have any pitfalls?
It can feel a bit daunting initially as you must purchase an Oyster card. This will cost a small deposit, which you ought to quickly recoup in the money you save.
You also need to “touch the card in and out” for all legs of your journey. But you’ll pick this up fast if you mimic the scores of London commuters you’ll see every weekday.
So unless your trip to London is a mere day-trip, you’re advised to get yourself an Oyster. Based on current information, Oyster cards don’t expire, which allows you to re-use them on future London trips.

Insurance providers are plentiful and in today’s market one can get a policy drawn up whilst at home or even in the airport about to depart. Just be warned that the best option by far for choosing travel insurance is to source it from a travel insurance business, not an agency that specialises in flights or accommodation.
By helping the insurance provider to save on overheads by getting your cheap travel insurance online, the savings will be passed on directly to you, lowering the price but not the value. Just because cheap travel insurance is cheap, it should not be substandard.
A good travel insurance policy needs to have the following essential components: A ‘No Excess Waiver’ to waiver the excess cost when you purchase your policy; 24 Hour Worldwide Medical Emergency Service; 25% Rule – you can leave your designated cover ‘area’ for 25% of the length of your policy;– day ‘no questions asked’ money back guarantee; automatic cover for 80+ adventure sports including bungee jumping, surfing, parascending and white water rafting; Your Insurance should be a ‘Living Document,’ which means you should be able to make changes to certain aspects of your policy as you travel.

Worst Father’s Day Gifts
Dads seem to always wind up getting really sorry gifts as compared to mothers.
Of course, my Dad also has put up with it all through the years. However to be fair, for a number of the early years, my Mom affably accepted kitchen gadgets every year.
Dads, however, still usually receive terrible gifts on father’s day, also when the children grow up!
How awful can Father’s Day gifts be?
We have a list of the most terrible gifts on Earth!
* Gifts that say “WORLD’S GREATEST DAD”. Casual shirts. Cups. Neckties. Please stop. All dads have a closet full of “Greatest Dad” gifts. When you are in kindergarten, it’s adorable. But not hardly when you reach fifty.
* Neckties. This is one of the gifts for father’s day that is a classic. (moan) Who that first dad ever was, to be presented this condemned tie… Why did he say he loved it!!! I am envisioning a caveman wearing a necktie. It’s been bad for Dads ever since…
* Men’s Cologne. First, this says: “Father, you smell bad.” Second. It states: “Dad. We realize you own a whole bathroom closet’s worth of cologne. We are not concerned by this. There is invariably a place for one more.”
