Marin County is blessed in the number and quality of fairs and festivals that it enjoys throughout the summer season. The following is just a sampling of those events, most of which are held in southern Marin County.

The Mountain Play celebrated its 96th year in 2009 with the musical Man of La Mancha. With a schedule that begins in the end of May and runs weekly through June 21, the performances are held in Mill Valley at the Cushing Memorial Amphitheatre at Mount Tamalpais State Park. 2009 tickets were $23 to $40. Each year, the Italian Street Painting Festival is held from 9 am to 7 pm on two days in mid-June in downtown San Rafael. The medium is chalk. Entrance is free. www.youthinarts.org; Tel: (415) 457-4878, ext. 15

Thangkas are one of Tibet’s most famous art forms, and they have fascinated generations of art fans around the world. In a very interesting and atypical twist today, Tiger Woods blew a lead entering the final round of the PGA Championships, losing to Y.E. Yang, a relatively unknown golfer. Woods had simply never lost a major after leading or being tied for the lead, and the world was shocked after witnessing today’s events.

Is this good? I don’t really think so. The PGA heavily relies on Tiger Woods and the sentiment on the street is that Woods simply isn’t effective as he was, and may never be again.

Woods hasn’t regressed as much as people like to think. He’s still won a very impressive five tourneys in 2009, and has staged some remarkable comebacks this year. Only the more serious fans realize this, but the media will be all about Tiger’s lack of a major in 2009.

While everyone loves to talk about Yang and what he did today, this was a crippling blow to the PGA in 2009. There were simply no exciting stories that capped off the year of majors. Tom Watson nearly became the oldest golfer (by far) to ever win a major, before losing it on the final day. If you’re looking for a biking adventure, Canada is the place to go! Experienced bikers will particularly love Canada’s rugged terrain and demanding trails to test their skill levels and challenge them. There are, however, some trails in Canada suitable for less experienced bikers, as well. Take a look at what I found!

The ride from Old Fort Point to Valley of the Five Lakes in Alberta, Canada is about 14 miles of singletrack. There are a few technical climbs and descents to keep it fun and challenging, but even a beginner can give it a try. There are multiple places to enter/exit along the trail to make it easier for the novice biker. There is also a lot of fantastic scenery to enjoy along the way. Be aware that during the summer, the trail can get rather busy, so watch out for other bikers.

Not far from Quebec City, the Mont Ste-Anne Ski Area offers more than just skiing. It is also home to lots of different trails suitable for riders of many experience levels. The trails vary in length and many are quite technical. This area does have an entrance fee-$6-and it will cost a little more if you want to take advantage of the chairlifts, as well. But the scenery is breathtaking and you could even see moose or bear on your ride!  Read more...

Ronaldo Lus Nazario de Lima, more generally known as Ronaldo, was born in September 18, 1976. In 1993, Ronaldo began his professional soccer/footballer career playing for Cruzeiro. In his single year with Cruzeiro, he accumulated 12 goals in 14 games and led the team to win their first Copa do Brasil championship.
